I heard about this brand new product. So I reached out a paw to the company for an exclusive interview. Murphy the Border Terrier was happy to be interviewed.

How did your human come up with the idea?
In July 2018 my human and I were out on a walk when all of a sudden a large dog grabbed me by the throat and pinned me to the ground.

To save you from the graphic scene that followed, I will skip forward to later when I am being seen by the vet and my human, Peter, was rushed to hospital with injuries to his hands.

When Peter left hospital that evening, he sat on the sofa beside me around the clock for three days as the vet had said my injuries were very serious and may not recover.
It was while sitting beside me for three days that Peter came up with the idea of the DogFender defence collar.

His first prototype was made using an electrical fly swat, some leather, wire and a 3.7 volt battery.

How long did it take for you to recover from your injuries?
It took me around six months to recover from my physical injuries.
However I was still stressed and traumatised from the attack.

How long did it take for you to recover from the stress and trauma?
After the physical injuries were healed I was still showing signs of stress, trauma and was still very nervous to go out for a walk unless Peter held me.

Eventually I did find the courage to roam freely, wearing the Prototype DogFender collar, although I still suffer from some stress and trauma today.

I was wearing the DogFender collar when a large white dog came from nowhere, making a beeline for me. My human panicked but thankfully remembered to press the collar defence button on the remote control. The large dog tried to bite the back my neck but was swiftly repelled and ran away.
That day Peter realised his collar could save other pets around the world and the DogFender was born.

Why has it taken so long to make the DogFender?
It is a long and frustratingly slow process to develop, test and get a product designed and ready for market. From the design and look, up to all standards and regulations that have to be met when designing a new product.
We've been tirelessly testing and refining our world's first dog defence system to protect your furry friends from unruly encounters or dog-on-dog attacks!

Over 140 professional dog carers/walkers and dog-loving communities have tested the product during the development stage, and the results have been overwhelmingly positive.
In fact, 23% of testers had no choice but to rely on our DogFender collar to defend their pets and reported great success.

Even just getting the European UK American and Canadian strong patent took nearly two years.

I thought electric shock collars were banned.
Everyone needs to realise this is not a shock collar that shocks the dog wearing it. It is a collar that can be switched on by the human to protect the dog wearing it.

In fact when I am wearing the collar I do not feel anything at all when it is switched on.
It releases a static charge directly to the attackers mouth, causing them to let go and stop the attack, without any long term effect.

Does this mean you cannot play with pals while wearing your collar?
Not at all, you can still play with your pals as the collar has several safety features.

One of the features is that it can only be activated by the remote. Once activated it has a sixty second countdown, which means it arms instantly but automatically deactivates after sixty seconds or it can be instantly switched off with the deactivate button if it is accidentally activated. This also means it cannot be accidentally left in armed mode.

What if I go out in the rain, roll in a puddle or go into water?
The DogFender has several features including a water sensor.
It also has an IP68 rating.
Which means it has to be a least waterproof to 1.5 metres of fresh water for up to 30 minutes.

It is also protected from dust without the need for extra cases or covers.

What other things make the Dogfender a good choice?
It reduces the risk of injury to humans that try to stop an attack.
It has 3 defence levels, designed for the size of the attacking dog.
It has lights which are useful for walking in the dark.
Potentially it can reduce insurance claims, which could also reduce premiums.
The DogFender is practical, safe and straightforward.

One of our lucky testers even prevented a thief from stealing her dog thanks to the collar's defence mode.
