National trust to Display Luke Jerram's Helios

Throughout 2025 the National Trust has announced it will display Luke Jerram’s newest sculpture, Helios, at locations in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The artwork is named Helios after the Greek god of the sun. is The Trust aims to make this dazzling new artwork as accessible to as many people as possible over the year.

The sun has inspired people throughout history as a symbol of life, light and renewal. By blending art with science, Helios offers an opportunity to reflect on the forces that shape our planet, and our connection with the natural world.

It is very dangerous to look directly at the sun, as it can damage our eyesight. Helios provides a safe opportunity for the public to get up close to, and inspect, its extraordinarily detailed surface including sunspots, spicules and filaments.

At an approximate scale of 1:200 million, each centimetre of the internally lit spherical sculpture represents 2,000km of the sun’s surface.

Along with its glowing light, Helios includes a soundscape featuring NASA recordings of the sun, by Duncan Speakman and Sarah Anderson. Together, the light and sound create a unique and immersive experience, inviting us to explore the sun's hidden beauty and power up close.

The tour will started on Friday 10 January, when the 7-metre sculpture appeared in the Georgian Ball Room at Bath Assembly Rooms. Visitors will be able to experience Helios every day in the Ball Room between the 30th of January and the 23rd of February.

Ensuring that as many people as possible can see Helios, it will be displayed in some towns and cities across the UK, for free.

Helios will be heading to Seaton Delaval Hall in Northumberland, after Bath and will be displayed at sites across the UK, including:

Seaton Delaval Hall, Northumberland
Ickworth Estate, Suffolk
Dyffryn House and Gardens, Vale of Glamorgan
Charterhouse, West Midlands
