Duke visits Bateman's, East Sussex
- July 2022

Hi Pals,
I wanted to tell you about my trip to Bateman’s national trust. The house is in Burwash, East Sussex but is famous for being the home of Rudyard Kipling. Apparently he was a famous book writer (author) most famous for a book about animals.(The jungle Book).

The walk from the car park to the house is downhill but a firm path. Hoomans did there cafe and house swap. Hoomom went in first whilst Hoodad had a piece of cake and a pot of tea.

So I need to tell you about the house and the treasures it holds.

This clock is the oldest in the national trust properties.

Apparently this writer bloke was that good that in 1907 he was awarded the Nobel prize for literature at the age of 41 (to date the youngest recipient of the Nobel prize). Yep you guessed it it's on display in the house.

Other great things to see are the leather wall paper, his Rolls Royce, and in the dining room there is a picture that was a present that his wife hated and he sat opposite it and his eye sight was so bad he couldn't see it. The house looks just like he has popped out for a coffee and he could still be living there.

So what about us hounds. There is a garden with a lovely pond

And some lovely flowers that smelt great.

Before leaving hoodad went in the shop and got a book by Mr Kipling he hasn't seen before it's - Dog Stories! .

If you are down in Sussex it's a must visit.
Until next time
love and licks
Duke xx
