Tigger's Green Paw
Peas

Animal Safety: Dogs: Yes Cats: Yes Rabbits: Yes

Free Grazing: In moderation

Lifespan: Annual, which means you have to plant new seeds each year.

Soil Type: Peas prefer good drainage.

Sew: From February to June.

Harvest: June to October

Position: Peas prefer an open, sunny position.

Life cycle:
Water the plants when they start to flower and two weeks after. Add a thick mulch around the base of the plants to help prevent the soil drying out.
Most peas, apart from dwarf cultivars, need supports to scramble up. For taller varieties, trellis, bamboo canes and netting are ideal, while smaller varieties can be supported with pea netting or pea sticks (twiggy branches).
After flowering, plants need sufficient water for the pods to swell. Check the soil moisture at root level regularly and water if necessary.

Eating:
Peas can be eaten raw or cooked.
Eating too much at once could cause digestive discomfort and excess gas. So any peas given to animals nust be in moderation.
Dogs can be served raw or cooked peas, but avoid tinned peas due to the large amount of salt used in the canning process.

Rabbits can eat peas and the pods as long as they are fresh and still green.
Cats can safely eat a small amount of peas which can be added to their meals. As casts do not naturally eat any vegetables, they will probably not thank you for them.
