Interview with... Robbie Meakin
Tell me a bit about yourself.
My name's Robbie Meakin. I'm 34 years old and a proud Wulfrunian. Aside from my work in radio, I'm Club Ambassador at AFC Wulfrunians and I'm a Teaching Assistant at an SEN school.
Tell me a little bit about your company.
WCR FM are the only radio station broadcasting from Wolverhampton and we're right in the heart of the city, with our studios in Mander House. We're proud to offer a wide variety of shows across the city and surrounding areas.
What is the best thing about working for your company?
The togetherness of everybody at the station. We all pull together to push to produce the best content for our listeners.
What and when was your ‘big break’ moment?
Last Christmas, I was informed that the Wolves Foundation were closing the project that I was working on and that I'd be let go, with no offer of an alternative role within their set up. 3 days before Christmas, it left me devastated. I loved working there and it was heartbreaking to be let go.
Fast forward to January, I spoke to my fiancée - Lauren - who suggested I get back into the world of media. I contacted WCR FM to see if I could get back on their sports show, which I had done before Covid, and I was told there was no longer a show dedicated to sport.
After discussions, I was offered the opportunity to launch Wolverhampton Sport at the end of that month. That, for me, was a huge break. To produce and present Wolverhampton Sport.
What is your most bizarre moment?
Before Covid came and ruined my momentum, I worked with Sky Bet and was on an advert to promote offers for the new season.
When on the shoot, I was talking football and boxing - in hair and make up - with Jamie Carragher and Tony Bellew. That was a pinch me kind of moment. I must add that they were both nice guys and brilliant to work with.
Name one unusual fact about your company.
I'm not sure about an unusual one, but I can see my flat from Mander House.
Are you owned by any animals?
Wolves have a stronghold on my mental health if that counts?
Where is your favourite place to be?
It may sound cliché, but chilling at home with my fiancée Lauren. TV on and feet up.
What is your greatest accomplishment?
In the summer, I took part in a charity walk from Birmingham City to Aston Villa to West Brom to Walsall to Wolves. Physically, I'd say that.
Who was your greatest interview with?
I'd probably say Jermaine Osbourne-Edwards. A talented local professional boxer. He's a great guy, with an infectious personality. His backstory and journey are incredible. I love the bloke.
Who would you most like to interview?
I'd love to sit down and talk to Mick McCarthy.
What is your next goal in life?
With Wolverhampton Sport, kick on and build on a great opening year. I'm hoping for a big 2025.
With AFC Wulfrunians, keep pushing the club and bring more people down to support our great local non-league club.
On a personal level, smash through more wedding planning this year, before we tie the knot in 2026.
What one piece of advice would you give to someone wanting to become a presenter?
Be yourself. Don't create a persona. You are who you are and that needs to shine through. It's not an act, it's a passion.
Always make your guests at ease. If they're on edge, you're not going to get a good answer to a question or good chat. It needs to be an open, free flowing interview.
How can everyone get in touch with you?
My X is @RobbieMeakin and you can find me at @robbiemeakinmedia on Instagram and TikTok.

Finally and most importantly... What was your most embarrassing moment?
I don't know. I'll leave that one to the listeners.
