Oldies Club

Tell me a little bit about your charity.
Oldies Club is a small, national charity who have been running for 18 years and who specialise in rescuing and rehoming older dogs aged 7 years plus who have found themselves homeless or unwanted.

There are many reasons these dogs need homes, sometimes their owners need to go into care/sheltered accommodation and they can’t take their beloved companion; sometimes the family can no longer care for them due to changes in their personal circumstances.
Sadly, some are found as strays and taken to the pound, but the pound can’t find their owner.

We place dogs into approved, loving foster homes where they are assessed and then promoted on our website for adoption.

What is your role and how did you get involved?
Hi, I’m Olive and I’m the Press Officer for Oldies Club. I’ve been doing this role for quite some time now and my main objective is to make people more aware of Oldies Club.

What a wonderful charity it is and hopefully get them to look at our website to see what we do and look at our lovely dogs.

What are the main goals of the charity?
As a responsible rescue, we consider it vital to know that we can meet a dog’s needs when we bring them into our care.

We work very hard to ensure that we have the finances available to provide for the dogs in our care, who often arrive in need of any veterinary examinations, treatment, and medication, before they can be adopted.

The costs impacts on the number of dogs we can help in the near and longer-term future, including dogs who are on our waiting list now, which is a very difficult position to be in, which affects our re-homing team, having to say no to someone in desperate need.

What are your most urgent needs?
Due to a lack of volunteers, for the first time, we have had to start paying for some professional transporters. So we would love to have a list of volunteers that could be called on to help with transport if and when it is needed.

We also need more fosterers across the UK, particularly those who are child/pet free.

We always have a waiting list of dogs in need, but we can only take them in if we have sufficient foster carers to place them.

What can people do to help?
YOU can make a huge difference to an older dogs’ life. Without our volunteers we can’t save dogs; older dogs do not do well in kennels.

There are lots of volunteer roles where you can make a huge difference. Such as fostering, transport, home check, fundraisers, following us on social media and liking and sharing our posts, sponsor a dog and of course, adopting one of our lovely oldies.

They really do make fantastic companions.

How can everyone contact your charity?
We can be contacted by email or through our website.
You could also look for us on social media as Oldies Club
