The Capers of Cilla
- February 2026
Hola pals!
This month, on a rare day that it didn't rain, I went on my first day trip from the island. This may sound odd for a young dog that's travelled over Europe, but a day trip on the ferry without the motorhome is a big step for me. I went to Southsea and back!! And muy bonito it was too. Elaine said that there had been a lot of regeneration work done on the promenade as it was bigger, wider and easier to walk along with a (slightly) wary dog. Although some of the grass areas had clearly been dug up, a lot of the gardens remained and new planters had been built. It was very pleasant in the sunshine. The gardens that remain are a mixture of grass and winding Victorian rock gardens which are great for sniffs albeit full of volunteers with wheelbarrow. I don't like wheelbarrows, they're odd contraptions.
Gardeners aside, I behaved impeccably, albeit tangling myself around the table on the ferry and barking at a few skateboarders. I managed a strange cafe, a new park, a walk next to roadworks and countless bikes and joggers on the promenade without too many histrionics. Muy bien Cilla! The ferry was brilliant on the way as I go to stand on the outside deck and sniff the sea air as we sailed. It was a tad cold (bracing Elaine said) but much more interesting and great training for me.... not that I need training as I'm perfecto, woof! I've now requested more full day trips... but not Southampton as that's too built up,

Good capers: ferries, biting wheelbarrow handles, cafes
Bad capers: pavement walks, musesuems that don't allow dogs, the wind
