Sparky

Tell me a little bit about yourself.
I’m Sparky and I’m a 10 year old rescued Springer Spanner. Mum and dad say I’m a typical Springer; lively, greedy, adorable and pawsitively bonkers.

How many humans/siblings do you have and long have you had them?
I live with my mum, dad and fursister Skye who’s also a rescued Springer and I’ve been with them almost a year.

Do you work? If so where/what do you do?
I’m now retired but before I was rescued my occupation was a stud dog until I was dumped in a forest because I was no longer up to the job. I eventually ended up being rescued by Spaniel Aid, who placed me in a foster home, with a great couple caring for me until my pawfect, furever home was found and I’ve never looked back since.

If you could choose your name what would it be?
I’m happy with Sparky - I prefer it to Scooby Doo which is mum and dad’s nickname for me because I can get a little overexcited at times.

What is your favourite food?
I love fish and chips and one time I made off with dad’s fish from his plate when he went to answer the door but I was very good and dropped it on the floor when told to do so. Dad still ate the fish despite having been in my mouth and on the floor. Fortunately it had landed ketchup-side up, BOL!

Where is your favourite place to be?
Being at home with mum, dad and Skye.
I enjoy walking up the hills where we live. Dad and I will walk for miles and miles, just the two of us. Skye has bad arthritis in her hip so sadly can’t manage these long hill walks.

What is your favourite way to entertain yourself (annoy your humans)?
Probably gnawing my filled bone, then picking it up and dropping it on the floor; the sudden loud noise always gives mum and dad a terrible fright, heh heh. I occasionally sneak the bone onto mum and dad’s bed and leave fragments of bone all over the bed covers, much to mum’s horror. BOL!

What is your greatest accomplishment?
Being on the front page in the sports section of a national newspaper. But mum and dad would never have known about it had it not been for a neighbour who spotted me in the newspaper. BOL!!!
During the lockdown dad arranged for a cut-out of me to be placed in the stand at Easter Road in Edinburgh, Hibernian FC’s ground.
It means I can get to see myself on the telly when Hibs are playing at home, and surprisingly mum now watches the occasional game - even if it is just to see me. BOL!

What is your next goal in life?
To de-stuffify all my stuffed toys on Christmas Day and Skye’s too.

If you could be/do anything for a day, what would it be?
Being able to sleep a whole night under the covers in mum and dad’s bed without either of them realising I’m there until it’s time to get up. So far I’ve only managed half a night before being ejected. Hrrumpff!

Finally and most importantly...What was your human’s most embarrassing moment?
Not so long ago I had a tummy upset which gave me the runs. Mum took me to the veterinarians as it wasn’t clearing up but when the vet was taking my temperature I left him a little ‘present’ to clean up.
Unfortunately Skye came down with it as well and funnily enough the same thing happened with her when her temperature was taken. Poor Skye but it did make me feel less embarrassed, BOL!!!
