Dash

Tell me a little bit about yourself
I am a big, handsome, gentle, black and white boy, and turned 11 on 13th February. I like cuddles, snuggles, naps, belly rubs, and ear scritches. I also like going up to Mum for a scritch after having my dinner, snuggling near her face and burping. I am a smoochie boy.

How many siblings do you have and long have you had them?
I have two humans and one sister. I have had my humans for 6 years. When I came to live here Maggie was my sister. She chose me from the other houndies. I know she loved me, even though she sometimes grumbled at me and nipped at my bottom. After she went to the Rainbow Bridge, I was lonely, so we went to get another sister for me. That was two years ago.

Do you work? If so where/what do you do?
I used to run around after a pretend bunny. I am much happier being a gentlehound of leisure. My job is to guard the bed and the couch.

If you could choose your name what would it be?
My racing name was Ledaro Dash. Since retiring, my human servants have gifted me with many names including Dashie Boy, Handsomest Man, and Dashford Posthumous Bradley III (for formal occasions). Dashford sounds quite regal, don’t you think? With so many names to choose from, I’d have to say my favourite is anything that comes with a tummy rub!

What is your favourite food?
Some dogs are fussy, but not me – anything the humans are having is fine (even the vegan one). I’m particularly partial to Tuna Bake, Gingerbread Men, and Cheese-n-Crackers. I like noodles and pastatoo. They can sometimes be tricky, though!

Where is your favourite place to be?
Wherever my humans are, where I can be lying down so the staff can rub my tummy. Or making a nest on Mummy’s bed. Mummy grumbles about “making the bed again,” I don’t know why. I’ve made it perfectly!

What is your favourite way to entertain yourself (annoy your humans)?
Well, if I do say so myself, I have a special gift for backing up to inaccessible places in which to poo when we are out for a walk. Picket fences, bushes, and tree surrounds are just a few of my favourites.

What is your greatest accomplishment?
I once crossed the perilous plains of porcelain (a.k.a. the kitchen floor tiles) despite the many terrors of that slippery expanse. They are very scary. I slipped on them a long time ago and I have not forgiven them.

What is your next goal in life?
What is a goal?(Tilts head)

If you could be/do anything for a day, what would it be?
I would be me. I don’t know how to be anyone else!

Finally and most importantly...What was your human’s most embarrassing moment?
At the Vet one time, a very pregnant dachshund waddled out of the exam room in front of us. She was coming right for me, so I took the precaution of hiding behind my human’s legs. I’ve no idea why they were so embarrassed.

Another time, my humans took me and Crumpet down to Williamstown (a beachside suburb in Melbourne, Australia). We were walking along the street near a big park that’s by the sea. I did a big smelly poo right in the middle of the footpath. It was quite yucky, and one of my humans had to try and clean it up, whilst telling everyone to watch their step. There were lots of people about – kids in prams, motorcyclists, bike riders, and lots of people walking past, and my human was very embarrassed. I don’t know what all the fuss was about….
