News from Doris - The Roving Reporter
- April 2024

Hi pals,
Elaine and I were thinking of what to chat about this month when I let out an elongated yawn. This made her laugh and gave her the idea of 'things Doris does now she's old' !! One of those elderly communication tricks is the elongated yawn, something I've always used but that is exaggerated more now I'm 14. In younger years it was always to indicate irritation but is now comfort, warmth, happiness and of course, annoyance.

I also stand my ground, refuse to move either because I want to go somewhere or don't, and I tap my paws. Paw tapping and usage has increased and most recently I've learnt a new trick. Yes a new trick at 14! My treats have been in the same cupboard for 12 years and I've always stood in front of said cupboard for pudding and bedtime treats. Now I stand proudly and kick the door with my front paw! I'll do this at regular intervals until a treat is forthcoming. I'm most proud of this trick... always my right paw and always a solid bash to the side of the cupboard door meaning it bashes back with a satisfying bang. If I weren't so old I don't think I'd get away with such cheekiness!

Next month I've been promised a mini break in Devon so paws crossed they'll pack my treats!
