Duke visits... Mowgli Dog Show
- June 2025
On the 7th June I went to a new dog show. I have been to small charity shows, Great Global Greyhound Gatherings and Dog Fests but this time it was to a show that Hoomom has wanted to go to before.
The Mowgli dog show is in its 7th year and this year was the 7-8th June. I went on Saturday 7th June. The weather forecast was horrendous with heavy rain forecasted for 10 hours so Hoodad was nervous to travel the 101 miles each way to go there (Claremont Farm, Bebington Wirral CH63 4JB).
The show was signed posted with big yellow signs when leaving the motorway and stewards directing you where to park. It was only drizzling when we got there but hoomoms and I both put on waterproof jackets. On entering the show we got given a map of the show and a list of the classes in the fun dog show.
There were 2 show rings one for the dog show and the other being a demonstration rink. I got entered into Golden Oldie class 7+ each class cost £2 and was capped at the maximum of 25 dogs. I was in a class of 25 but didn't win as first price went to a lovely 15 year old deerhound Lurcher who only last week climbed Ben Nevis mountain (way to much walking for me). Before each dog was presented to the judges a mic was put in front of the owner and asked to say who you were and what the dog likes to do. Hoodad said I Iiked Tweeting and writing articles for Tigger Tails doggy news paper. Hoodad said my last article was about Northumberland and got asked my favourite place. He said Cragside but he missheard and said Crackside - I was ROTFL.
There were craft stalls to visit, places selling leads, harnesses and collars. I got a new collar bowtie and lead with rockets on from Frog Dog collars. For mini hoos there was a mini funfair and Ferris wheel.
By now hoomans were getting hungry so they went to look at the food stalls.
There were Dutch chips, pizza stand, vegan can, local butchers doing steak baguettes. But we went to 1 of the 2 excellent Mowgli stalls - Hoomom had butter chicken + rice (£11) and Hoodad the chickpea curry + rice (£10). There were 3 large dry canopy covered eating areas with picnic benches.
The main event sponsor was Liverpool John Moores University who were giving information about courses and giving away free bandanas, umbrellas and pens. But they also had their robot dog moving amongst us all.
Some dogs were barking at it but I gave it my natural Duke welcome and ignored it. It was a clever dog it would give you a paw, stand on its hind legs, attempt to pee and crouch. But like me I didn't see it Roach.
The whole event was to raise money for Claire House Childrens Hospice who look after seriously or terminally ill children. The mascot was walking round and giving selfies, hoodad couldn't resist.
I also tried myself in the back of a new range rover
Whilst walking round the show I got approached for a stroke from Nisha Katona who owns the mowgli chain of restaurants https://www.mowglistreetfood.com
We thanked her for all of her restaurants being dog friendly we have been in 6 of them and always been very welcomed.
I loved my day out and more importantly they have just announced how much money was raised.
I will definitely be back and hopefully visit Mowgli in Bury St Edmunds.
Love And licks
