Wolverhampton based AFC Wulfrunians, who play their home games in the Midland League Premier Division at the Prestige Midlands Arena, Castlecroft, are always keen to be involved with promotion of local organisations and the Wolverhampton area and as part of that promotion they were delighted to welcome Home Run Hounds of Wombourne as the match sponsors for the recent home game against Whitchurch Alport on Saturday 14 October.

The fixture saw four ex racing greyhounds from Home Run Hounds at the ground before the game to meet and greet the spectators and promote retired greyhounds as pets.

Home Run Hounds is a "Not for Profit" organisation where all monies raised are devoted to the needs of the Greyhounds in their care.  Where welfare is paramount and the future of the Greyhound as a pet is promoted across all ages.



Both AFC Wulfrunians and Home Run Hounds were delighted to welcome the Wolverhampton Mayor and Lady Mayoress to the fixture to meet the greyhounds, the volunteers from HomeRun Hounds and members of the AFC Wulfrunians management.

The game itself was a great example of football at a non league level with AFC Wulfrunians taking a first half two goal leadbefore Whitchurch Alport came back strongly in the second half with more possession and creating more chances but AFC stood firm eventually winning by 2 goals to 0 and Jack Rowley being chosenas the Home Run Hounds Player of the Match and winning a keg of Enville Brewery Ale.



The game was chosen by a group of “ground hoppers” as one of their games for this season and they, along with the large crowd, were treated to a great game of football, met some ex-athletes looking for a home and winning the raffle (The prize from which they generously donated to Home Run Hounds). The game was a great example of organisations coming together to provide a positive experience for all parties.
