History:
Great Witcombe Roman Villa was one of the largest Roman houses in Britain, and was part of a cluster of very wealthy villas in the Cotswolds area. A rich family lived here, together with their slaves and freedmen, for around 200 years, until the end of the Roman period in Britain.

Their luxurious villa, discovered in 1818 by farm workers, included an exceptional mosaic depicting many sea creatures.

Dog Friendly:
Dogs allowed on lead across the site (outside buildings)

Parking:
There is a small free car park a short walk away. Please do not park in the private lane beyond the car park.

None 

Notes:
Please note, there is no access to the buildings that house the mosaics.
There are sheer unguarded drops from the stone walls at the bottom of the site.
The area around the villa is grassed and has steep sections. It is not suitable for wheelchair access.
