Lucy and Nelson - On the Move
May 2026
Hola Amigos/woof hello Buddies. We are Lucy and Nelson from #ERSRemovals back again and checking in with all our Furry Amigos.
What have we been up to since last time you askWoof:
Well not much you know normal dog stuff walkies and the likes.
But we have tasked our Hooman with finding some interesting facts about Spain has he managed ?
(Woof yes again )(woof are we been Lazy again Nelson?
Woof no Lucy work smart not hard lol (besides we love Spain what better way to show it than finding interesting facts )and we still have loads of facts woof , but before we start lets shame our hoomans they didn,’t get Lucy a birthday cake
So Quirks of Spain:
1. Did you know at one point in Spain (woof not that long ago. Really Nelson? woof yes Lucy within my lifetime ) Only the security services (woof in this case that’s meant basically the various Polica,) could only use Blue Emergency lights the Ambulancia and Fire and civil Protection had to use Ambers, yes Amber but with Sirens, but woof , now they use blue.
Woof Yes Lucy, thou some appliances like a few in Turre have mainly Ambers with blue lights in the grill.
Woof not as interesting as the facts from last month Nelson?
Okay Lucy next fact:
2 Pheasent Island location 6 months a year Spain, 6 months a year France.
Wait woof Lucy, did Ashley Translate that right from Dog to English, woof yes let us explain (called Isla de los Faisanes in Spanish and Île des Faisans in French) sits in the middle of the river between Irún and Hendaye.)
(woof stop cheating Homan Ashley and copying from Chatgpt)
BOL! okay he could not spell its French and Spanish names so letting him off , lets get back on track.
So between February and July it is Spanish and August to January French , so woof when reading and writing this its is Spanish .
But why ? Well the long story 1659, Treaty of the Pyrenees so wars and Peace treaties and all that historical stuff , woof the war was the 30 years war.
Woof 30 years war that’s like 3 dog lifetimes!
So woof yes the peace treaty was signed on the island and still to this day they rather than split the island as the middle of the border , move the border every 6 months
It sounds a hassle!
Woof! apparently not so much as no hommans life on the island so its purely ceremonial.
And Wars between Spain and France in the past have cause other quirks.
Woof go on Nelson like what?
Next fact:
3 Well again at the border but this time other end of Spain, and over in the Provincia Girona, you have the Spanish Town Llívia, an Enclave of Spain, in France which is connected to Spain by only a narrow strip of land that the Spanish road N154 , well same war , same Treaty , and the basic summary , all Villages that where Spanish on the Northern side /French side of the Pyrenees would become French.
So what happened with Llivia?
Well woof ,Llivia to put it simply, is not a Village, so Spain said by the letter of the Treaty it was and is still theirs, which it is to this day
Next fact:
4. not sure if this counts a quirk , or woof even strange.
Dut did you know that all the emergency services in Spain have their own emergency number?
Woof so what so do they Nelson. In the UK, you know 999.
No Lucy not like that, and it is 112 in Spain.
It’s as in
062 Guardia,
092 the polica Local .
091 Polica National ,
061 Ambulance
080 Fire service
Thou it is better to ring 112 as they have staff who speak many hooman lingos
Next fact:
5 woof did you know that the Spanish National Anthem is only music no words?
The Spanish national anthem, known as the Marcha Real (Royal March) was composed in 1761 and is one of the oldest in the world.
It is one of only four national anthems in the world that does not have official lyrics.
It was originally titled La Marcha Granadera, (March of the Grenadiers)
