About:
Sweetcorn belongs to the to the Poaceae family, and although eaten as a vegetable and sometimes as a grain, it is actually classified as a fruit, like tomatoes.
There are 5 varieties of sweetcorn. The colours range from white, yellow through to multicolour.
It takes around 10 to 12 weeks for sweetcorn to grow. It grows 6 foot stems that generally have 2 ears of corn. The hard core, cob, is not generally eaten by humans, it is the outer kernels that are consumed.
Dogs:
Dogs can eat sweetcorn raw or cooked in moderation. However is it stressed never to give a dog the cob to chew the kernels off. Dogs will try to eat the cob and as it is tough, it could accidentally get eaten whole or in large chunks that could cause a blockage.
Cats:
It would not harm a cat if they occasionally ate a small amount of sweetcorn, however there is very little nutritional value for a cat. So feed sparingly.
Rabbits:
Rabbits can not eat sweetcorn. It can cause gastric upset and could cause blockages. Avoid feeding rabbits sweetcorn.
