About:
Standing close to Southampton Water, Netley Abbey is the most complete surviving Cistercian monastery in southern England. After the Suppression of the Monasteries the buildings were converted into a mansion for Sir William Paulet. The ruins now reflect over 800 years of change, during which the abbey was transformed from a monastic house to a mansion house, and later to a romantic ruin.

Dog Friendly:
Dogs are allowed on leads.

Entry Charge:
Free for everyone (see website)

Parking:
There is limited car parking at the site. Further parking can be found at the Abbey Hall Recreation Ground, a five-minute walk from the site.

Facilities:
Toilets are available at Abbey Hall Recreation Ground, a five-minute walk from the abbey. There are shops and places to eat in Netley village.

Notes:
Please do not climb on the walls.
There are steps and uneven surfaces throughout the ruins, but wheelchair access is possible for most of the site.
Lyme disease is an infectious disease spread by ticks which may be present on this site. The most common sign of infection is an expanding area of redness on the skin, which appears at the site of the tick bite about a week after it occurred. Please keep to the clearly defined paths, especially if you have a dog, and check yourself and your pet when you get home.
