The Wags (& company) are back!
Wag and Company are finally able to go out and about to visit their elderly friends in the North East of England again.

Wag and Company were launched in May 2016. They match and enable professionally assessed volunteers and their special dogs (Visiting Wag Teams) to safely befriend elderly dog lovers across the North East England.

Their vision is that no-one should miss friendship and the company of a dog and their belief is that once they reach 1,000 Visiting Wag Teams, evenly spread across our region, they can credibly believe they’re making a meaningful difference to this substantial problem for the elderly in their communities.

Unfortunately, like everyone else, Wag and Company had to stop their essential visits during lockdown and although some were able to ‘visit’ with the use of technology, that was not always possible and many friends missed their visits.

Wag and Company are finally able to go out and about to visit their elderly friends in the North East of England again.

They are double vaccinated where possible, still keeping to social distances, hand washing and wearing masks when visiting their elderly friends.

The almost 400 volunteers and their dogs visit the elderly in their own homes, in care homes or hospitals, sharing the joy of seeing a dog when most are unable to have pets of their own any more. They also give a bit of companionship to someone that is lonely and have helped cheer up friends with dementia and other age related illnesses.

More importantly now that lockdown has finished Wag & Company are able to resume assessment of their backlog of nearly 100 hopeful dogs that are eagerly awaiting their assessment to become Wag dogs and who are hoping to pass and wear the distinctive red Wag and Co bandana.
