North East Charity Awarded 2 National Lottery Grants

Wag and Company have been awarded two grants by the National Lottery .
The Digital Fund and the Reaching Communities Fund. Totalling £568,203.

This will be used to finance their growth and a digital transformation project.
The project provides Wag and Company with the right digital systems, technology, skills and numbers of people to be able to manage and fund a safe and professional Wag operation which is more than double in size and still growing to meet the huge demand.

Founder and Director of Wag and Company Diane Morton was overjoyed and said, “Everyone involved including the Volunteers, Staff, Trustees, the National Lottery players and The National Lottery, we are so thankful for everyone that has helped and supported us, which will enable many thousands more lonely isolated elderly dog lovers to have friends and furry friends - whether in their own homes or in care - in perpetuity! Thank you “

North East charity Wag and Company enable volunteers and their dogs to visit older dog lovers in their own homes or in care and medical establishments across the North East of England.

The organisation was founded by local business people and is supported by some key businesses in the North East.
Having visited the elderly with dogs in nursing homes as part of corporate volunteering programmes, they have seen first hand the positive benefits of new friends and the special bond between dogs and people.

There are more than 51,000 pensioners in the North East who describe themselves as lonely all or most of the time.
The North East is also a region of dog lovers, having, at 36%, the highest percentage of dog owning households in the UK.
