Digger

Tell me a little bit about yourself.
I am Digger. My racing name was Tedo Digger. I live with Peachey now. I ran 191 races and came 1st or 2nd in about a third of them. I started racing in Ireland in 2007 but moved to Brough Park, Newcastle after 9 months and stayed there till I retired in September 2011. I ended up in a holding kennel until RGT Wolverhampton rescued me in 2013. I had to live on my own for a while as my jabs weren’t up to date and I hadn’t been neutered but the man who is now my hudad used to come and talk to me when he was at the kennels. When Peachey’s friend Skippy died, her hudad decided to look to home an older dog and chose me because he said I was always a happy hound. I went to live with him on December 20th 2013, just in time for Christmas and I got lots of treats. It was my Birthday this week so I am now 11.

How many humans/siblings do you have and long have you had them?
I had three brothers and five sisters but I don’t know where any of them are now. I live with Peachey and Dad now. We are all Honcho hounds. Head Honcho was my Granddad. He was Peachey’s and Skippy’s Great Granddad so she is my niece, which is nice because Dad didn’t know that when he decided to give me a home.

Do you work? If so where/what do you do?
The only work that I do is sleeping, eating and walking.

If you could choose your name what would it be?
I think I will stick with Digger. It is appropriate because Granddad was Australian and also I used to dig big holes in the garden till Dad had artificial grass put down. I never managed to reach Australia though; it must be a long way down because it was quite a big hole.

What is your favourite food?
Anything really, as long as I don’t have to chew it because I have no teeth now. Cheese is good; and sardines; and lamb; and mince; and beef ……….

Where is your favourite place to be?
In either my bed in the dining room or the one in the front room, depending on where Dad is sitting because I like to be near him and where I can see him.

What is your favourite way to entertain yourself (annoy your humans)?
I have a cuddly monkey that I like to run round the house with, throwing him up in the air and treading on everyone’s toes. The only thing that stops me is if I throw it and it goes near Peachey. I daren’t get it then because she snaps at me if I go near her when I am being boisterous. When that happens I have to find another toy. Sometimes I run off with Peachey’s octopus and play with that but she lies in wait and as soon as I drop it, she grabs it and runs off into her corner with it.

What is your greatest accomplishment?
I think it was getting a nice home when I was nearly nine years old. It is very hard for oldies to get homes, particularly when they are black and male.

What is your next goal in life?
To live the rest of my life in comfort with lots of treats and cuddles and going to our monthly tweetups to see all the pals I have made, particularly the lady ones. Tweetups also mean sossidges!

If you could be/do anything for a day, what would it be?
I hadn’t really thought about it. Perhaps I would like to have all my teeth back so I could enjoy lots of pigs ears and wonky chomps

Finally and most importantly...What was your human’s most embarrassing moment?
When I first came to stay with Dad, I didn’t like other dogs, especially small furry ones. Dad had a few narrow scrapes when some of them came too close to me and I fancied a quick snack.
