I Contacted Saviours Haven Sanctuary to find out more about them.

Harpo and Zante were available and happy to answer my questions.

What is the history of Saviours Haven Sanctuary?
Zante: Well if we go waaaay back to the beginning, it all started with our human, Steve, who was previously a child actor and worked in pantomime, performed a comedy entertainment act. It wasn’t called Saviours Haven Sanctuary then.
During this time he pretty much lived out of his caravan as he toured all over.

One day the officials on location said he would have to get rid of the animals that toured in the caravan with him as they did not want ‘pets’. There was a Jack Russell Terrier called Mitch, 2 doves, 1 rabbit and 2 rats. Steve immediately jumped to their defence and said they were part of their act. 
The officials were happy with that explanation and left.

Harpo: Unlike the animals that were shocked to discover their days of lounging around the caravan in luxury would be changing.
Zante: Our human quickly contacted the RSPCA for advice on how to include the animals without risking their welfare. There was a new routine and script to work out, which took time.
Soon a Specialist Act was put together. It was a comedy - magic routine.
Harpo: You’re not kidding about the comedy, the first night he messed up the tricks, forgot some jokes and even managed to set fire to his sleeve.
Zante: Shhhh Harpo. A magician never reveals their secrets!
Harpo: Never reveal their secrets? Really? The whole audience was creased up laughing!
Zante: I need to point out no animal was harmed or in any danger.
Harpo: Apart from our human hahahaha.
Zante: Next question please Tigger.

During this time did your human meet any other famous humans?
Zante:<span"> Our human does not really name drop Tigger.
Harpo: hahahaha!
Zante: Harpo!
Harpo: What? I never said anything!
Zante: Shut your beak!
Harpo: *sigh* Next question please Tigger.

Why did your human step back from his act and focus more on animal education?
Zante: After a show where he had started to try and educate humans into not getting exotic animals, a small human said he enjoyed the show and knew what he wanted to be when he grew up. He wanted to be an animal magician.
Harpo: He realised that instead of educating humans about animals he was encouraging what he felt was the wrong thing for animals.

How many animals live at the sanctuary?
Zante: There are currently 60 animals living here. There was at one point over 168 animals.
Harpo: Can you imagine 168 animals? Imagine the daily clearing up of …

How did your human manage to get that many animals and what happened to them?
Zante: Humans started to learn he was an animal lover and they started asking him to take their animals. Some had to go to breed specialist who could provide care for them. The rest spent their life at the Sanctuary until they crossed the rainbow bridge.

Does the Sanctuary have to have licences?
Zante: Yes. We have several, due to exotic animals, animal transportation and animal performance.
Harpo: Not to mention visits from government bodies, animal welfare etc.

What is your next goal?
Harpo: Nuts!
Zante: What?
Harpo: Sorry I got hungry, a bird’s gotta eat.
Zante: Our next goal is to raise enough money to be able to buy land..
Harpo: With a house!
Zante:I was getting there!
To get somewhere to set up a large and secure sanctuary where more animals can be saved and live out their natural life with us.
We would have an education centre for visitors to learn about the resident animals and why they should never be kept as pets.
