Bethany gives her book a voice

Bethany Lunney is a teenager that has written a book. There is nothing unusual about that so far, but Bethany is a neurodivergent teenager. She lives with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and since her diagnosis at the age of 11, she has confronted her daily struggles head on.

Once she was diagnosed, she did her research to try to understand more. Unfortunately there were very few books around that captured the reality of real mental health issues from a young person’s viewpoint.

At the age of 14 there was only one thing Bethany could do, she set about writing her own book. It was published in January 2025.

The book offers her journey into the life of a neurodivergent teenager navigating the complexities of adolescence with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Through unfiltered moments of struggle and resilience, the story sheds light on the mental health challenges often faced by young people with neurodiversity. It dives into the feelings of isolation, confusion, and frustration that accompany the teenage years, highlighting the misunderstandings from peers and family dynamics that can arise.

The book does not shy away from the difficult parts, it confronts them head on, ultimately revealing a world where hope, connection, and understanding make all the difference.

Once the book was published Bethany needed to find a way to make it available in audio books too, as she relies lot on audio books and thought others may use audio books too.

As Bethany and her Mum started looking into audio book Productions. They got a menu of voices to choose from. Bethany recognised one straight away because it was the voice on a couple of the books that she’s so loved when she was younger.
She chose the voices of Charlie Sanderson as Zoe and Nicky Griffiths as Ellen in her book and it works brilliantly.

The book is available now on Amazon audible, Spotify, Google play and will gradually be appearing on a few others.

About Bethany:
This is actually my second published work. I wrote my first novella, Goodbye Granny Rose, at age 10, with proceeds going to Acorns Children’s Hospice. I also enjoy writing poetry to express myself, sometimes performing it live.

In my free time, I love walking the Malvern Hills with my family and our dog, Biscuit, as well as competitive swimming and drama.

Thank you for reading my story. I hope it might inspire you.
