Prorogation and reopening of Parliament

The time between one general election and the next is known as a Parliament.
A new Parliament starts after each general election.

A Parliament is normally divided into sessions that last roughly a year.

During a session, amongst other things, Bills are discussed and travel through a process where they will either fail or become law and are turned into an Act.

On the 26th of October prorogation took place, which meant that the 2022 to 2023 session of parliament had finished.

Any incomplete Bills could be carried forward to the new 2023 to 2024 parliamentary session and continue their way along the process from where they ended as the Parliamentary session closed.

Any Bills not voted to be carried forward would fall and not be discussed in the new parliamentary session. Any Bill not carried forward could still be introduced in the next Parliamentary session but it would have to start from the beginning, regardless to what stage it got to in the previous session.

I always repawt on any Bills relevant to animals that are making their way through Parliament, but at the time of printing there are no animal related Bills yet.
