Tigger's Tails
- May 2026
Hi Pals,
With the current fuel prices going through the roof, my human has been taking me for some adventures nearer to home instead of in the car.
I can honestly say, I never appreciated how lucky I was being able to have a ride in the car and explore locations far and wide. The car, in case you are unfamiliar, is a magical moving box that delivers dogs to forests, beaches, and occasionally places with plenty of treats to sample. I used to leap into it like a furry explorer.
Now? The car sits there. Mocking me. Probably full of invisible squirrels.
These days I seem to do the same walk over and over again. Even though my human does try to vary the route we walk, it still starts and ends on the same long road. I know every crack in the pavement. I know every lamppost personally. I have sniffed them all. Twice. Some of them have excellent gossip, but still… a dog enjoys variety.
At first, I was outraged. I staged a small protest (by sitting down halfway through the walk and becoming mysteriously very heavy). Then something unexpected happened. I began to notice things. Important things. Like the exact time other dogs were walking their humans.
Or the tiny gap in the hedge where fascinating smells drift through like invisible postcards from faraway lands. Or the cat who thinks I haven’t seen it. I have seen it.
My human talks more on these shorter walks too. I don’t always full listen to the words, but I understand the tone. It’s the “this is nice, isn’t it?” voice, and it is nice. Even if the road is the same, the smells change, the weather changes, and sometimes, I even get to bark at something!
So yes, I miss the car adventures. I miss the big journeys and the new places, but I’ve realised something quite wise, even the same walk every day isn’t really the same if you pay attention.
Still, if fuel prices go down, I will be waiting by the car. Just in case.
Nose bump to you
Tigger
